Drive five miles inland
from California's scenic Monterey Bay and you will discover
another kind of beauty... Pajaro Valley. Known historically
as the City of Watsonville, this thriving community is recognized
worldwide for its flourishing agricultural and flower industries.
Strawberries, apples, cauliflower, broccoli, artichokes and
long stem roses are the prized crops of this rich farmland.
Ranked 5th for agricultural production in California, local
food processors freeze and distribute more fruits and vegetables
than any other single area in the United States.
Pajaro's growing ethnically
diverse community offers residents a high quality of life
at a relatively lower cost of living than more populated Bay
Area communities. The city's economy is also diversifying
with an influx of electronics and manufacturing industries,
service firms and non-agricultural product distribution centers.
And there is plenty of room to grow. According to the California
State EDD, non-farm employment is projected to expand by 9,100
jobs by the year 2008.
Pajaro Valley's central
location provides easy access to pristine beaches, wooded
hiking trails, world famous golf courses and the many cultural
offerings of the Bay Area.
The historic Van Laanan
farm provides the backdrop for this large park at the south
end of Santa Cruz County. Surrounded by fertile farmland,
Sunset State Beach features a wooded campground, picnic area,
group campground, and 200-foot high dunes (the largest in
the country) built up in front of coastal bluff. The beach
itself stretches down to where it meets the mouth of the Pajaro
River, giving three miles of unobstructed and spectacular
shoreline.
This State Beach is located
at 201 Sunset Beach Boulevard Watsonville, CA.
